Peer pressure

Peer pressure is the social influence your peer group exerts on you as each member attempts to conform to the expectations of that group. Your friends and classmates influence your life, even if you don't realize it, just by spending time with you. You learn from them, and they learn from you. Remember that it is only human nature to listen to and learn from other people in your age group.

You may feel peer pressure in a negative way as those around you try to influence you to do things you don't want to do or know that you shouldn't do. For example, a classmate may try to pressure you into cutting class or making fun of another classmate. However, peer pressure does not always have to be a negative thing. Peers can have a positive influence on each other. You might admire a friend who is always a kind to others and try to be more like him or her. Maybe you got others excited about your new favorite movie, and now everyone's watching it.

How important do you think you are? How do you see yourself? How do you feel about your achievements? Simply put, self esteem is the opinion you have of yourself and your value as a person.

Good self-esteem is important because it helps you hold your head high and feel proud of yourself and your abilities. Positive self esteem gives you the courage to try new things and empowers you to believe in yourself. You must believe in and respect yourself before anyone else can!

Body ImageWhat do you see when you look into the mirror? What do you feel when you think about your body? How do you feel in your body? Body image refers to your perception of your own physical appearance and how you feel others perceive it. It's not based on the truth but instead on what you see as the truth. Body image is influenced by your self-esteem and it in turn, influences your self-esteem. You body image will be forever changing and is sensitive to your mood swings, physical environment and experiences. If you feel ashamed or self-conscious about your body you have a negative body image. If you feel comfortable and confident in your body you have a positive body image.
